Strategic Plan

On January 1, 2022, the Alberta College and Association of Opticians (ACAO) became the College of Opticians of Alberta (COA) with the sole mandate to protect the public through the effective regulation of the opticianry profession.

As part of its commitment to effective governance, the COA Council establishes a three-year strategic plan and reviews it on an annual basis. To facilitate the transition to the COA, the Council set an interim plan that expires in 2023.

The 2022-23 COA Strategic Plan identifies the following strategic pillars to guide operations:

Collaborative Care

Opticians are often a patient's first touchpoint for eye care; the care opticians provide is in collaboration with other healthcare providers.

Public Awareness

Opticians are healthcare professionals contributing to and improving Alberta's healthcare system.

Effective Governance

Opticians self-regulate for the purpose of protecting and serving the public.

Annual Reports

The Annual Reports below, from 2014 – 2020, were published by the ACAO. Future reports will be published by the COA. Our Annual Reports provide a snapshot of our activities each year and include our audited financial statements. These reports are provided to the Minister of Health for review.
